Proliferation Version 2 Idea Blackboard

This page contains brainstorming ideas for the eventual Version 2 release of Silicon Commander Games Proliferation.

Abstract

Proliferation 2 is set in a world where religious and ideological extremism has run amok.  Into this mess throw the leftover WMDs of the Cold War and the War on Terror.

Notes

  • Setup
    • Players take turns choosing territories at start of game (ala Risk)
    • Players should choose territories based on regional proximity but also ideology
  • Approval Rating
    • Each player has an approval rating
    • Approval rating is affected by actions against territories with similar/dissimilar religions/ideologies, and economic conditions
    • 5 stages of "unrest" applied to each player
      • Unrest level has chance of rising when their is a low approval rating
      • Once level 5 is reaches, there is a chance of a revolution, removing the player from the game
  • Ideology
    • 4 basic ideologies (Adamists, Prophetists, Enlightened, Purists)
    • Each is a different color
    • Territories will have a mix of the 4, and a color indicator will indicate the overall mix level
    • Each player will have a composite indicator that is the average ideology of all their territories
    • Actions against other players/territories affects player's approval rating based on ideology
  • Defcon Levels/ICBMs
    • ICBMs need to be aimed at a target territory, and raised to a Defcon level before launch is possible
    • Each change in Defcon, or target, will allow other players to respond by changing their own levels/targets, before the regular game play continues
    • There will also be an enforced delay that controls how quickly Defcons can be raised
    • Allowing for this response time ensures MAD (Mutually Ensured Destruction)
    • Also, seeing a player raising its Defcon level will allow other players to respond with conventional forces before the Defcon level reaches launch
  • Tactical Nukes/other WMDs
    • Using these contributes to overall planet contamination factor (PCT)
    • The higher the PCT the lower the overall score of all players at end of game
    • Wanting the high score/standing in the Proliferation Hall of Fame will be the incentive against using WMDs
